2025-26 STEM Competition for MAIS schools

Students will participate in five events and one optional team event at the State Finals on January 17, 2026 at Hartfield Academy, Flowood MS. All events will earn STEM points. Register for the State Competition below. See registration and payment below.
State Finals: Jan 17, 2026 at Hartfield Academy, Flowood, MS
Workshops: Tentatively, we will run, up to three Workshops, before the Finals. The Workshops will allow your students to practice the events and most importantly for you team to practice the “Pick & Drop” game. Locations and dates to be announced.
Here are some notes for this year.
- Qualifying Individual Events: Individual students that place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any individual event receive STEM points.
- School awards require a minimum of three students in the grade category.
- All students are required to participate in the Math and Science events. Fees: $55 per student, Payment is due Dec 15, 2025.
Events: The five individual events are below.
MATH: Students will have 20 minutes to complete 20 grade-appropriate math problems and one abstract problem. Download the Math Study Guide K-12.
SCIENCE: Students will have 15 minutes to identify 20 science lab tools and equipment by matching the object with the correct name. Labs tools and equipment will be common to middle and high school science labs.
BINARY: Students will be asked to convert blocks that spell a word containing binary code to ASCII or alphabetic code. Student will be given 1-2 minutes.
MEASUREMENT: Students will be asked to measure the length of various objects with various measuring devices. Students should learn to read English and metric and fractional lengths, such as, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, etc as fraction and decimal.
TROUBLESHOOTING: This is a new event. Students will be asked to troubleshoot various types of mechanical and electrical issues. More information coming on this.
TEAM EVENT: The Team game is called “Pick & Drop”. Students, in teams of two (3rd-12th), will be asked using their robot to pickup 1″ x 1″ colored blocks and place them into one of four locations. Each colored block and each location will have multiple points ( 1x, 2x, 3x ) which will determine the points scored. There will be an autonomous and driver-controlled period.
The robot dimensions must be less than 18″ by 18″ by 18″. The driver-controlled mode can be by remote-control or App control, no wired control. The autonomous mode must be controlled by a program from an App or uploaded internally. Any programming language can be used.
